The Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong, presents

his compliments to the Under Secretary of State for

the Colonies and, with reference to the Secretary

of State's despatch No.501 of 29th December, 1939, is

directed to inform him that the inference expressed in

paragraph three of that despatch is correct. The

actual expenditure in 1938 on Item 8(b) should,

however, read $14,873.15 and not $14,893.15 as set

out in paragraph two of the despatch. 01.
